Our workshops are designed to support you in the challenging work of self exploration, in mindfulness retreat with some of the leading minds of the day. We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. This growth asks us to delve into ourselves and to understand the depths of our connections. It’s the driver of change both personal and societal, and it’s always been at the core of Esalen. The Rituals of Esalen program gives you and a partner five days of peace, space, and natural beauty so you can do the work of growth. Enjoy serenity for the mind, support for the body, stimulus for the spirit, and nourishment for all three.

The dynamic schedule changes weekly, but always features opportunities to sit in meditation and mindfulness, explore embodiment and movement practices, and connect with nature. An opening circle hosted by our Teacher in Residence welcomes you as you begin your stay, while a closing circle on the final day provides a mindful way to conclude your experience. Savor three healthy meals a day. Esalen’s beloved mineral hot springs perch over the Pacific Ocean, a juxtaposition of intimate and infinite. A core part of Esalen from its inception, they’re an ideal place to reflect, find clarity, and set new intentions. During the days, be inspired by the rugged, wild Big Sur coastline. Use the tranquil evenings ideal for stargazing and contemplation, or spend time exploring the day’s insights with your partner.

This workshop is the first in an 8-part Entheowheel series, hosted in collaboration with Esalen Institute. Bridging the worlds of ceremony and science, we’ll explore the evidence for therapeutic healing with psychedelics and sacred plant medicines. To facilitate a range of practices, you will receive a blessing basket containing ceremonial items to support your journeys. We honor the role of the guides, their lineages, and the setting in which they hold their ceremonies.

Whenever possible, we work with medicine carriers from the original lineages, asking their permission and guidance and foregrounding their voices. This course is designed to provide cultural, ceremonial and spiritual context and integration practice for future journeys. It will also introduce you to ancient technologies including breathwork and meditation that allow you to access higher states of consciousness with the natural abilities of the body. This is not a course on how to trip at home or have un-guided journeys. If you’re experiencing acute physical or psychological trauma, this course may not be for you. How do you process your losses and move through your life? Many of us have not yet found safe and effective ways of expressing these emotions and we can feel burdened, both emotionally and physically, with the cumulative weight of our unfinished business. Lucia is a dancer and meditation teacher with more than 25 years of global teaching experience. She will facilitate the 5Rhythms movement practice as a way of experientially accessing and transforming the emotional states that come with grief. In this self-care immersion, mothers of all ages and stages — new moms, single mothers, empty nesters, and those who are ready to become mothers — come together to explore the sacred path of motherhood. Yoga, dance, and ceremonial self-care provide sensual and centering practices that help clear and revitalize energy. Therapeutic journaling and wisdom circles help participants identify what truly matters.

Ritual, prayer, and adornment provide ways to weave beauty into each day. You will leave feeling seen and energized, and with a clear strategy for infusing your discoveries into your home life. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. MBSR is an intensive 8-week, once weekly, group program developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and associates at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. The curriculum is based on the emerging field of Mind-Body Medicine. Through intensive training in a combination of mindfulness, cognitive behavioural and self-regulation skills, participants learn to mobilize their deep inner resources to facilitate learning, growth, healing, enhance self-care, and make positive shifts in attitudes, behaviours, and relationships. Participants are given daily home practice assignments designed to assist in the development of a disciplined and nurturing meditation practice. Koop and Hannah Marsh is intended for individuals who are generally healthy, and who would like to learn to manage their stress more skillfully.
